Mitsubishi’s Newest Crossover Is Confirmed

Mitsubishi LogoThe crossover segment is booming, and every automaker seems to be developing new models designed to redefine the industry. Mitsubishi’s newest crossover is in the same boat with one small difference. The new crossover has already been confirmed and is currently undergoing testing in California.

Osamu Masuko, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, confirmed that the automaker plans to add a new five-seat crossover to its lineup. The new model will fit between the midsize Outlander SUV and the compact Outlander Sport crossover. With the addition of a new crossover comes changes to the existing lineup as well.

The compact Outlander Sport will shrink to better match competition like the Subaru Crosstrek and Jeep Renegade. That puts it in the perfect position to grow customer loyalty for the Mitsubishi brand as the subcompact crossover segment is seeing sales trending upward.

Production of Mitsubishi’s newest crossover is set to begin in fall 2017, an indication that the brand is continuing to shift away from the struggling sedan segment.

The new crossover will compete with the Kia Sportage and Ford Escape and boast styling similar to the eX Concept and XR-PHEV II shown at auto shows in 2015.

Here at Gossett Mazda Hyundai Mitsubishi, we’re pumped for the arrival of Mitsubishi’s newest crossover!
