Hyundai CRADLE Investing in Battery Developer Ionic Materials

Hyundai is investing in battery developer Ionic Materials to further clean, affordable batteries

It’s more and more apparent that the future of the automotive industry is in electrified vehicle technology, and Hyundai is working to stay ahead of the curve and innovate more than its competition. That’s why Hyundai CRADLE, Hyundai’s corporate venturing and open innovation business arm, is investing in battery developer Ionic Materials. The investment will help Hyundai innovate with respect to the advancement of solid-state battery innovation.

Clean & Efficient Solutions

“Ionic Materials’ breakthrough technology could significantly improve battery technology today,” said John Suh, vice president of Hyundai CRADLE. “We are always looking for ways to ensure our cars provide the highest level of clean and efficient solutions. Our investment in Ionic Materials will keep us at the forefront of battery development, allowing us to build better eco-friendly vehicles.”

Better Batteries

The benefits that solid-state batteries have over lithium ion include improvements in safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness. Solid state batteries promise better efficiency at a lower cost than today’s technology, and Hyundai’s investment puts it at the forefront of bringing the technology to the masses.

Hyundai Leads The Way

Ironically, Ionic Materials’ name is evocative of the Hyundai Ioniq, the new midsize sedan available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrain options. This innovation, as well as the investment in Ionic Materials, makes Hyundai today’s leader on the road to a greener future.
