Mitsubishi’s Five Million Sales Record: From 1982 to Present

Mitsubishi is breaking all sorts of sales records this year, including its five million vehicle sales mark. The brand has sold a whopping number of Mitsubishis in the US, beginning in 1982. Starting with just three models, the brand has grown to offer some of the most popular cars on the market.

When it first began selling in the US in 1982, Mitsubishi offered only the Tredia, Cordia, and Starion, three designs you might still see on the road today. According to Mitsubishi, the most popular models the brand has offered include the 3000GT, Eclipse, Montero, Galant, and the recently retired Lancer Evolution. Mitsubishi’s five million sales record is one impressive mark!

“This is a great milestone for Mitsubishi Motors because it means that five million customers have entrusted the brand over the past 30-plus years, and we hope many more will give us that same opportunity in the future,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president, MMNA. “Our current sales momentum combined with a technologically innovative product pipeline primes Mitsubishi for great success in the U.S. for many years to come.”

Mitsubishi currently offers the i-MIEV, Mirage, Lancer, Outlander Sport, and Outlander. Sales are up 43% this year, especially because of over 100 improvements and upgrades made to this most recent model year.
