Check Your Tires: Tips & Tricks

Make sure to check your tires to ensure your safety on the road

Tires are such an integral part of any vehicle, yet they often get overlooked by owners when it comes to regular maintenance. Don’t make that oh-so-easily-avoidable mistake! Having roadworthy tires will make your daily drive, or your travels to grandma’s for Thanksgiving, safer and easier for everyone.

Two foolproof ways you can check your tires is through examining their pressure and wear levels.

Tire Pressure

To check your tires’ pressure level is simple. First, purchase a trustworthy tire gauge, available at home improvement, automotive, or general department stores. Make sure you haven’t driven for at least three hours before checking your tire pressure. Insert the gauge into the tire’s valve system and compare the psi reading to what is listed in your owner’s manual. If you’re too high, release air until the proper number is reached. If too low, take your vehicle to the nearest air pump to add air to every tire.

Tire Wear

There’s a very simple way to check your tires for over-wear. Just take a penny and insert it with Honest Abe upside-down into the tread of one of your tires. If most of Lincoln’s hair is hidden, your tires are still roadworthy. But, if you can see his forehead, it’s probably time for a new set of tires. Schedule an appointment with the service department at Gossett Hyundai Mazda Mitsubishi if you’d like a professional second opinion.

Check Out These Fun Thanksgiving Games for the Whole Family

Enjoy your holiday with the family with these fun Thanksgiving games

The Thanksgiving Day Parade is over, but the turkey still has four hours of cooking time in the oven left. Not to mention, you still have dough to roll out for the pies and potatoes to mash for the sides and…

Needless to say, you’re going to have your hands full this Thanksgiving. Here are a few delightfully fun Thanksgiving games to keep the kids happy (and out from underfoot) while you work your magic in the kitchen.

Autumn Scavenger Hunt

This is a great game to set up, especially if you’re hosting other families with even more kiddos. Send the kids into the backyard to search for pine cones, red leaves, yellow leaves, purple leaves, brown leaves, 10 acorns — you get the picture! Each child will search for autumn-themed outdoor items and present them to a parent. The first to gather every item on the list can get a special prize, like the right to get the first slice of pie.

Coloring Placemats

You can find anything online these days. Search for “kids coloring Thanksgiving placemats” and you’ll find a variety of Turkey Day-themed activities for the young-ones. Set them up with crayons and a placemat of their very own to color. They’ll be proud to display it at the Thanksgiving table come dinnertime!

Thanksgiving Trivia

This will require an adult volunteer to share a little Thanksgiving knowledge, or to quiz them on what they’ve already learned in school. Give a mini lesson in pilgrims, pumpkins, and Thanksgiving food traditions, then surprise them with trivia questions throughout the day. Correct answers get a piece of candy!

From the family at Gossett Mazda Hyundai Mitsubishi to yours, have a happy Thanksgiving!

Winning Mazda Engine Named to Wards 10 Best List

Mazda CX-9 - Memphis, TN

The stellar Mazda CX-9.

One of the first things that car enthusiasts think of when they imagine Mazda is the brand’s penchant for churning out innovative, powerful, but fuel efficient engine technology. Year after year, Mazda keeps delivering capable but lightweight vehicles that are fun and affordable. It’s exactly that kind of commitment to excellence that allowed Mazda to make it onto the Ward 10 Best Engine list. The winning motor in question is the Mazda CX-9’s 2.5-liter DOHC turbocharged inline-4.

Utilizing Mazda’s signature SKYACTIV-G technology, the CX-9 replaced its former heavy V6 with this new lightweight engine to cut 250 pounds from the 2017 model year vehicle, boosting its fuel efficiency by a whopping 25% over the previous model year. The secret is the Dynamic Pressure Turbo System hidden inside the engine, which creates extra pressure by funneling exhaust through a smaller space. Cranking out 301 lb-ft of torque, it’s obvious this isn’t your average four-cylinder engine.

The winning Mazda engine attracted attention and awe from the WardsAuto editors, an impressive feat that earned it the number one spot on the 10 Best Engines list for the year thanks to its incredible innovation and unusual engineering. Mazda doesn’t seem to be slowing its roll any time soon, continuing to crank out excellent new engines year after year that take the market by storm.

Seven Consecutive Years of Hyundai Sales Growth

2018 Hyundai Elantra GT - Memphis, TN

Hyundai is soaring higher and higher every year.

There was a time when Korean automakers were regarded as cheap, off-brand knockoffs of higher quality Japanese cars, but no longer. Between seven consecutive years of ongoing success and the debut of the brand’s new luxury Genesis sub-brand, Hyundai sales growth is all the evidence you need to prove that more and more drivers are flocking to the Korean carmaker as their first choice, rather than a flashier or trendier alternative.

For 2016, Hyundai posted a grand total of 775,005 units sold, a record number for the company in United States market. Sales dropped slightly in December by 1.9%, but Hyundai remained confident, with Derrick Hatami, vice president of national sales in Hyundai Motor America, announcing that “consumer confidence surged in December, to the highest level in more than a decade,” allowing the company to capitalize on that and cross the finish line for a record year.

So is this drastic Hyundai sales growth streak going to continue? Representatives aren’t worried. Between the Tucson and Santa Fe nameplates setting personal records for December and growing sales for the Genesis sub-brand, Hyundai simply seems to be gaining steam, not losing it. Hyundai plans on gaining even more momentum over the course of 2017.

Memphis is hustling and bustling as Christmas lingers right around the corner with New Year’s Eve to follow. But, it’s not too late to plan a few final seasonal outings with friends and family. Just make sure your gifts are wrapped and your Christmas decorations are up, and then head out to enjoy some Memphis holiday events this 2016.

For one thing, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy a lovely light display. Get a group together or take your visiting relatives to one of the area’s best. The Starry Nights at Shelby Farms Park display is the largest in the Mid-South with over 1.5 million lights and runs until December 27th. Or, you can visit the Zoo Lights where you’ll also get to meet Santa, go ice skating, and meet live reindeer.

Speaking of Santa, there are several more chances to meet him these last few days leading up to Christmas. He’ll be at Enchanted Forest at Pink Palace, Carriage Crossing and Wolfchase Mall through Christmas Eve—then he’ll be off to make some important deliveries.

In the days following Christmas, make plans to go ice skating with friends and family. And don’t forget to schedule something fun for New Year’s Eve, like the American Queen New Year’s Celebration Steamboat Cruise, the Overton Square New Year’s Eve Party or just a simple, fun night of bowling. Happy Holidays!
